Transforming People into Patriots

The phrase “They just don’t get it” can be applied to both political parties, but too frequently it is applied to the Democratic Party; the Party was partially correct when it suggested that the public was disturbed by the lack of job production. Where they missed the point is that the actions taken by this party have done nothing to establish an environment that is conducive to the growth of businesses that would contribute to a fiscally sound nation. The actions taken by this administration have expanded the public sector workforce, but has done little to increase employment in the private sector; in fact, its actions have created an environment that makes it harder for the private sector to survive and prosper.

The statement that the losses experienced by the Democratic Party were a result of the unemployment figures, but this explanation is an oversimplification of the true story. In the Party’s efforts to enhance its constituent base, it embarked on a path that would not only hinder entrepreneurial growth but also move the Nation further from the intent of the Constitution. The tsunami that hit the Democrats was the result of a number of factors, and it would be a mistake for the Party to think that it could be boiled down to the lack of jobs; if they really view their losses from this prospective they are missing the real message.

The Republican Party might be making a big mistake in thinking that the Democratic Party is destroying itself as a result of the actions it has taken, but that view may lead the Republicans to neglect a possible motivation behind the actions of the Democratic Party. If the Republicans are intent on correcting the Nation’s problems, they will have to operate on two levels. They will have to create an environment that is conducive to the growth of jobs in the private sector, and at the same time educate the public on the rationale behind the actions. If the Republicans fail to accomplish this they may find their position is not as certain as the results of the last election may be suggesting.

One could very easily postulate that the Democrats are interested in building a constituent power base, and that they perceive their actions of playing to various segments of the population and demonizing other segments will accomplish their objective. Whether this premise is correct or not is beside the point; it would still be prudent to address the resolution of problems with rational explanations of the actions taken by the Republican Party. If the reasoning is sound and transparent a good portion of the public will accept the programs being presented. One still has to question the Republican Party’s resolve to enhance the system given to us by the Founders; there is still the possibility that this Party will opt for power, rather than resolving the Nation’s problems.

It is doubtful that either party has a clear understanding of what transpired during the last General election; it is certain that the electorate will to have to remind many of their representatives in future elections that it is time to change the way they govern. Our representatives should be reminded as soon as the stray of course; this is going to require the electorate’s consistent vigilance. One can only conclude that both parties have their fair share of representatives that have not gotten the complete message, and they are trying to attribute their losses or gains to limited factors that only partially explain the results. Thankfully there are a lot more constituents placing their representative under the microscope, and they are more than willing to point out their failings. There will also be people looking to muddy the waters, but these tactics are becoming more apparent to the electorate and will only help to highlight the duplicity of those employing these tactics. Hopefully the electorate will continue the good work that they have shown in this past election, and apply it equally to members of both parties.
