Transforming People into Patriots

The best type of product to sell is a product that sells itself once the target audience is made aware of it. There are few products that fit into this category, regardless of the hype used to sell many of the products presented to the public. Take note of the next product that is found to have serious problems, there will be an avalanche of ads promoting the product but no mention of its problems or the resolution of them. An analytical approach can be applied to the government’s efforts to sell the public on many of the programs it’s trying to initiate, or to the campaign messages presented by hopeful politicians. These selling techniques have been developed over generations to have an impact on our thinking, but they rely on the recipient not being analytical. It’s time for recipients to become aware of the fact that they are being manipulated and abused. The manipulating aspect is clear but one might not pick up on the abusive factor. Ads frequently employ methods that suggest the recipient is stupid and will not apply analytical skills when the message is received.

Clearly, this is a critical period in our history, and critical analysis of all the messages being presented to us daily becomes an essential element for a realistic assessment of the propaganda. The government has spent the better part of the year trying to sell the administration’s Healthcare Bill; even after its passage, it is still being sold as a legislative benefit that the American public will embrace. Most Americans are convinced that a large portion of their representatives have not read the legislation, and really have little understanding of many of the essential elements in it. There is even less understanding of the resulting unintended consequences of the programs within this legislation.
It should be clear to an observer that the administration is concerned that many of the points being emphasized by the opposition have some validity, and therefore they are continuing their sales pitch. In essence the administration is telling the electorate that there are valid reasons for being concerned about the Healthcare legislation. There may be another reason for the administration’s concentration on the Healthcare legislation, and that’s because it diverts the electorate’s attention away from the debt and the continual loss of jobs; items for which the administration has no viable corrective solutions.

Voters should start to improve their analytical skills and apply them to all the messages that they receive from the government, political parties, and perspective candidates. One should not be distracted by party lines or left vs. right, it is essential that factual information be analyzed backwards and forwards. One should be aware of the connecting points of the information being analyzed and evaluate any potential unintended consequences along the way. The electorate has already accumulated great losses, and one can only hope that they develop an awareness of their position and start to correct the abuses that have infiltrated our political system.
