Transforming People into Patriots

Are our systems becoming overloaded? It seems if one is interested in what is happening in the Nation, it is very likely that they are feeling stupefied as a result of the information overflow, much of which is contradictory. Clearly, there is at least one subject that the average person should find interesting due to the impact on ones’ life. To ignore the actions of our government would leave one totally unprepared for the consequences’ of these actions; ignoring a problem does not help one in coping with the consequences.

Let’s take a quick overview of some of the things that are going to have an impact on most of us. The growth and concentration of power in the Federal government has been greater than any time since the Great Depression and World War II. Our healthcare system is in process of going through a major change that is going to affect us all in one way or another. It is already clear that it is going to cost more than the administration suggested it would cost. We had an oil spill in the Gulf that is creating an ecological and economic disaster. The illegal immigration problem has been with us since before 1986, and our only answer to this problem is to revisit the actions that were taken back in 1986, which in reality is no solution at all. Our economy is in the tank and this administration seems to think that the way out of this dilemma is to spend more money. It is true that some injections of capital into the system in specific areas could have a positive effect in stimulating growth, but this administration has not given enough thought to this solution; consequently, it has only put our nation deeper in debt. One gets a strong impression that our educational system is getting worse with each passing generation, and our only answer to this problem is to throw more money at this broken system. Generation after generation we seem to be moving away from the course that our Founding Fathers set for us; it has gotten to the point that the founding documents have lost almost all relevance. It would seem that we have a new problem on the horizon related to one of our basic freedoms, voting. The Department of Justice seems unwilling to prosecute people that have intimidated voters going to the polls, but that is not the only thing out of kilter with our voting procedures. There seems to be some question as to the eligibility of many voters. It would also appear that we have a problem with recognizing God and Christianity; this trend is very disturbing to many of our citizens.

There are many other concerns in addition to the ones listed above, some of which are unintended consequences of the aforementioned vexing items. It is not surprising that many of our citizens are questioning the direction the country is going in. One may even question the commitments we have made around the world to establish stabilized democratic governments; while we appear to be moving towards something that is akin to a dictatorship. One thing is very clear, we are moving away from the plan that our Founders set out for us. One may question whether we should be sending our loved ones to protect our freedom here at home, while we seem to be abandoning those freedoms for an unrealistic security. There is still too large a portion of our population that is oblivious to the dangers of the actions being implemented. The Nation was promised a fundamental change, but it is doubtful that what we received was what many of us envisioned when we heard this promise. Some may find these changes desirable, but when one considers how many of these changes came about it should be clear that what is waiting for us at the other end is not going to look like anything most responsible people would consider a desirable form of government. Don’t listen to the words; look at the actions. Go one step further and look at the history of man; the species has traveled this road many times in the past and the end result has been disastrous.
