We are continually bombarded with political rhetoric of how concerned our elected representatives are over our plight, while in reality they constantly enact legislation and policies that degrade our ability to live as free and independent individuals. One good example is how our retired senior citizens are treated; there are a number of actions that have been taken throughout the decades that have moved an ever increasing number of them closer and closer to a point of destitution. Even though many of these seniors have saved for their retirement and have approached this period in a fiscally responsible manner.
Our representatives tell us how competent they are at managing the government’s business; one can only conclude that the government’s business is the establishment of a public autocracy. Let’s look at some of the actions that have gotten us to this point. During the Great Depression the Nation had an unemployment rate exceeding 25%, and the Gross National Product had dropped from one hundred and five billion in 1929 to fifty-five billion in 1933. The political scene was ripe with Progressives politicians and there were many elements calling for the government to establish some sort of a safety net; that net resulted in the Social Security Act of 1935.
Originally Social Security was intended to be a supplemental income and was restricted in its application; through the years the Act has been expanded in various ways, including the categories of people that would receive payments. The new view is that these payments are too small to allow individuals to maintain themselves, but that was never the intent. In order to cover this ever expanding program the government has continually increased the contributions made to this program by both the employee and employer. This means that the individual has less money, while the cost of products and services go up. The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) was intended to cover these increases, but our representatives made sure that they covered that aspect by extracting food and energy from the Consumer Price Index (CPI); the result of this action is a further reduction in purchasing power. To add insult to injury, the Federal Reserve is increasing its printing of money to six hundred billion dollars; this move will depreciate the value of our dollar and consequently goods will cost more. Since most of what we have to spend goes to food and energy, it is unlikely that retirees will receive a COLA increase in the future; this is true for most retirees, including the military.
One only has to look at the public sector’s increases in wages or salaries and the expansion of employment, creating a further drain on the private sector’s income. If you still think that our government is working for the private sector or for the retired population, then one can only conclude that our educational system is meeting the goals set by the government for our education. It can’t be said often enough that we will have to go through rough times to correct that damage that our government has done over the generations.
Our Founders gave us a paradigm to follow, but we have failed to follow the wise path that they set out for us. This may be our last opportunity to turn things around, but it’s going to require attention to the actions being taken by our representatives. The Founders were extremists and were well aware of the uniqueness of the Constitution that was drafted for our new nation. Are we going to fall into the trap of buying into this One World Government? If we do, then we will have lost the chance of being a beacon for the rest of the world, what this means is that man will be used to serve government, rather than government serving man. You’re going to make the choice; will it be freedom or slavery?
