Transforming People into Patriots

I Just returned from a New Hanover County Commissioners meeting in Downtown Wilmington where the recent actions of the NHC ABC Board was on the agenda. Following the meeting, I was interviewed by WECT-TV concerning the resignation of our ABC Board following public scrutiny--and some outrage--over board actions. The three member board has resigned in full force raising more questions and more public outrage. The County Commissioners are seeking answers, and they have told us they will get answers and respond accordingly. The Wilmington Star News was praised (that's refreshing) for their investigative prowess on the matter. Of course Russ Hauptman of Americans For Prosperity, and Ben McCoy of Wilmington Rants Radio on the the Big Talker FM spoke their three minutes. Talk about nut shelling. Asked by WECT what concerned me the most about the NHC ABC Board's performance: the sky high salaries of the NHC ABC chairman and co-chair (father and son, by the way), over double what the STATE chairman brings down. The smallest county of 100 counties in North Carolina pays the highest salary to their ABC chairman. Boy, we must be rich in these parts.

The ironic thing is that New Hanover County is now advertising for a new Chairman of the Board (salary $84,000). The vice chairman, Billy Williams, Jr. has been and will continue to earn $110,000 plus $30,000 year bonus. Seems like something fishy about this whole approach. The father, who was Chairman, resigned. Seems like the county could do something to get rid of the son, so the Commission could start with a new board, new chairman, and a new vice chairman.;
