America seems to think that it’s impervious to the events occurring around the world; one may conclude that there is an inability to connect the dots by many of our citizens and elected officials. Some people are suggesting that everything is going to work out just fine, but their evaluation is based on a very limited view of the entire picture. Many individuals appear to be incapable of evaluating the problem from a global perceptive; the analysis is made from a very limited personal view, which leads to conclusions that are often distorted.
We cannot do much to aid nations around the world with the problems they are facing, but we can do something to head off the complete collapse of our nation. It’s a given that our society is not going to be able to continue on the current path; the longer it takes for us to correct our problems, the more discomfort we will experience as a result of the corrections. Our myopic view of the Nation’s fiscal condition has to be corrected if we are to avoid an economic collapse of our society. One needs to view the history of nations and learn some of the basic principles of commerce and economics. Many citizens limit their analysis to recent history; this may be a period of fifty to one hundred years, and frequently it does not take into consideration the changes in the society during this period.
History will give one a synopsis of a culture from beginning to end; if one were to concentrate on the main focal point, such as formation of the society, the changes in the governing structure, the development of trade, and the reasons for the dissolution of the society, it would be helpful in the evaluation of our society’s condition. This bird’s eye view, along with an understanding of basic economic principles, will help one to see past the misinformation given out by the government and media. It is important to remember that much of the history utilized for one’s analysis is full of our species character flaws, and those defects are still with us.
One problem our species has is that we view ourselves as enlightened, but our society is making the same mistake that previous societies have made. Our Nation needs to go back to the basic principles that were established by our Founders in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. It is not being suggest that these documents are perfect, but they are the best guides man has had for governance, and for giving the individual the freedom to seek his or her own level of success. We are all different, and many of us may have a different perspective of success than the one Madison Avenue is trying to impose on us.
If our aspiration is to hold on to what our Founders gave us, then it’s essential that we establish an educational system that far exceeds any other on the planet. This cookie cutter type of education is not going to get us to where we need to be. We will have to develop systems that can be applied to a variety of learning abilities, and not assume that we know what the right conditions are for a person to learn. This may sound simple, but it is probably the most difficult task any educational system has ever addressed, and it will require generations to get the basic principles established. The suggested education method will require a teacher to pay more attention to the individual, to see what stimulates the learning function in the individual. Innovation and experimentation will have to be two of the essential elements of this new form of education, but these are also basic elements of our system of governance. One can only hope that we still have enough people in our society to realize the goal set for our society by our Founders.
